Butler football falls to Marist on the road
The Butler football team fell to the Marist College Red Foxes 37-27 on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Poughkeepsie, New York. The Bulldogs fall to 2-7 on the season while the Red Foxes improve to 3-5.
The game started off rough for the Bulldogs as during their first drive Nick Orlando’s pass was intercepted by Ryan Webb and returned for a touchdown. That gave the Red Foxes a 7-0 lead.
Later in the first quarter, Luke Paladino hit a 27-yard field goal for the Red Foxes to extend their lead to 10-0.
The Bulldogs would get back on track in the second quarter as Nick Orlando would find Stephen Dennis for a 46-yard touchdown. It was then followed by an interception by Beau Snuggs that was returned for a touchdown, giving the Bulldogs a 14-10 lead.
Marist responded with a 48-yard touchdown run by Hunter Cobb which returned the lead to the Red Foxes, 17-14. This was followed by a 28-yard field goal by Paladino to give the Red Foxes a 20-14 lead before the half.
Butler would even the score in the third quarter with two consecutive field goals from Drew Bevelhimer from 52 and 39-yards out.
The Red Foxes would go on the attack with Cobb rushing it in from nine yards out. This was followed by a 46-yard field goal by Luke Paladino to give the Red Foxes the lead 30-20.
The Bulldogs would respond with Nick Orlando rushing it in from three yards out to cut the lead to 30-27.
Hunter Cobb would put the team on his back yet again as he would score a 21-yard touchdown, giving him a hat trick on the day and extending the Red Foxes to 37-27.
The Bulldogs would try to make a late comeback, but it would be put to an end with a missed field goal by Drew Bevelhimer. This resulted in the Bulldogs losing 37-27.
The Bulldogs will hit the field next against the Davidson College Wildcats at noon on Nov. 9 at the Sellick Bowl.
